Could Suzuki Kizashi get VW power?

suzukikizashigtsreview 03 opt 450x298 Could Suzuki Kizashi get VW power?
When Volkswagen announced it was teaming up with Suzuki for some joint projects, initial talk centered around small cars for emerging markets and possibly even a spate of two-wheeled ventures. Now, the rumormill is buzzing with speculation that the Japanese automaker might be interested in securing some of Volkswagen’s well-regarded powerplants for its midsize Kizashi sedan.
Prior to its tie-up with VW, Suzuki had enjoyed a partnership with General Motors that had the Japanese automaker using The General’s engines and transmissions. Those contracts died off after the VW deal, and, according to Ward’s, it now appears that any future engines for the Kizashi beyond the 2.4-liter DOHC four-cylinder (185 horsepower and 170 lb-feet of torque) will be sourced from Volkswagen.
Currently, there’s no indication what powertrains Suzuki is interested in procuring from Volkswagen, but we’d have to guess that a V6 or possibly even a hybrid would be on the menu, if possible.

If anything else, you must admit that the folks over at DAMD have a vivid imagination when it comes to styling up small city cars like the Suzuki Wagon R. The aftermarket tuning house treats the Japanese mini -literally- van Wagon R with a new bodykit that comprises of a gaudy grille matched to a new front bumper that comes with an integrated lip spoiler and aluminium accents, side skirts, roof spoiler and a new rear bumper with an aluminium center piece that houses the new dual exhaust tips.

The vehicle’s exterior appearance is rounded off by a set of Crimson alloy wheels in a black finish with orange colored rims that are wrapped in 165/40R 17 tires.

Other available options include a sport suspension that lowers the Wagon R’s ride height, specific floor mats and black leather seats with contrasting orange stitching.

My Two Styling Dents on the New Suzuki Kizashi Sedan

2010 Suzuki Kizashi 0 My Two Styling Dents on the New Suzuki Kizashi Sedan
“They make cars?” used to be the common response when asking people about Suzuki’s automobile offerings. That’s about to change, though, because the runt of the Japanese litter has decided to go head to head against the first-stringers. With its Kizashi mid-size sedan, Suzuki thinks it knows what mid-size car buyers want, but the big question is: how can this stubby mid-sizer hope to compete?

For the time being Suzuki is playing it smart and starting out simple, offering a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with either a 6-speed stick or a CVT. The controllable all-wheel drive system is a nice option in the segment, and with a V6 and hybrid rumored to be in the works, this mid-size saloon should be more than ready to take on the world (putting a few more nails into the Mitsubishi Galant’s coffin…).

In the cockpit is where the Kizashi scores some serious points. Compared to its contemporaries, it’s easy to tell time was invested in designing it for driver/passenger comfort, ease of use, and a sport-luxury ambiance – apparently I’ll hold off quality opinions until I feel the polymers with my own bare hands.

The Kizashi’s center stack doesn’t choke you with switches, but it doesn’t bore you to death, either (take a look at those metallic fangs).
For comparison, the Toyota Camry’s dash is to the point, but oh so boring. There’s nothing there that stands out. Add to that the top-heavy, anorexic-Dolly Parton gated shifter and you have an interior that’s as charismatic as a corpse. In fact, I feel like I’m aging just looking at it.
The Honda Accord’s dash layout is a step up from the Camry, but not by much. At least Honda’s “robot designers” threw in some bisecting lines, making it more stylish than the Camry but drowning drivers in buttons and knobs.
Also, to let everyone know that the Kizashi isn’t messing around in the entertainment department, there’s an available Rockford Fosgate sound system to go up against Toyota’s optional JBL stereo setup and Honda’s “premium” one.
From the outside, the Kizashi is possibly the most youthful in the segment. I like its tough, chunky form and stubby up-ticked rear, but that doesn’t blind me to the fact that it’s lines are far from original.
Easily identifiable on the production model is a blend of the Kizashi concepts’ facial features with those of VW’s Jetta (the proportions seem much better than the Jetta, though). Now follow the sculpted line along either side of the hood, up the A-pillar, over the flared fenders and back towards the trunk. While admiring the rear three-quarter view you’ll see hints of Toyota’s Mark X sedan.
Below the rear bumper, you’ll either like those geometric tailpipe surrounds or you won’t. They’re not the best part of the car, but at least the exhaust pipes can be seen inside them (unlike the superfluous faux exhaust tips found on the . . . ahem . . . nigh-$60,000 Lexus IS-F). Up above, I would have liked that third brake light mounted flush in the trunk lid, but that’s a minor deal that shouldn’t deter anyone from taking a look at this car.
More and more it seems like Suzuki has a potential winner on its hands, one that could draw plenty of people out of the competition’s showrooms. The runt has put out a cute and butch car that, if there isn’t a whole lot of brand loyalty in one’s diet, may get some serious attention over the next few years. Now if only they would release the rest of the specs. After all, those mid-size sedan buyers are a finicky lot.

Suzuki SX4 and SX4 Sedan Facelift Revealed in China

296bzx2 2010 Suzuki SX4 and SX4 Sedan Facelift Revealed in China

Suzuki’s joint-venture in China, Changan-Suzuki, has released a facelift version of the SX4 crossover for the domestic market. Not surprisingly, both the hatchback and sedan variants of the updated SX4 feature the same aesthetic changes as the European version of the car that was scooped undisguised last December. These include the redesigned bumper, reworked grille and concave surfaces above the fog lights as well as a new skid-plate at the rear of the hatchback.

For those that like to pay attention to insignificant details, the China-market and, from the looks of it, the European-spec 2010 SX4′s subtly redesign front-end is no different than the one found on the North American market SX4 that has been around since 2006…

The Chine-spec SX4s also feature updated interior trim and a new GPS navigation system.

      Cobra Suzuki SX4

      Carscoop SX4a Cobra Suzuki SX4

Cobra came out with a couple of “off-road looking” accessories for Suzuki’s compact crossover that include a stainless-steel front guard and sill guards. The German based tuner also offers three different set of alloys for the SX4. Sorry to say this but even with these accessories the SX4 still looks utterly dull. Pity, cause design and limited boot-space apart, it’s a real honest and enjoyable proposition in the compact car segment.

Press Release: To make the front of the Japanese Cross-Over from compact car and SUV even more striking Cobra Technology & Lifestyle offers a high-gloss stainless-steel front guard with a tube diameter of 60 millimeters. This accessory part successfully passed the crash test which is necessary to meet all current EG guidelines for pedestrian protection. The part, which has flexible mounts and is designed to absorb energy, comes with an EG operation certificate, eliminating the need for a technical inspection and for amending the vehicle papers.

Additionally the Suzuki can be refined with a bumper grate made from high-gloss stainless steel. The exactly fitting and easy-to-mount accessory can be alternatively mounted with or without the Cobra Technology & Lifestyle front guard. The Cobra Technology & Lifestyle 60 millimeter stainless-steel tubular sill guards with integrated step are attractive and practical since they also facilitate entering and exiting the vehicle. They also round out the Off Road look.
The tire/wheel combinations from Cobra Technology & Lifestyle are custom-tailored for all versions of the Suzuki SX4: Altogether there are three different wheel designs in sizes ranging from 7.5Jx16 to 8Jx17. The most exclusive wheel is the multi-piece Cobra Grenada five-spoke wheel in size 8Jx17 with 225/45 R 17 tires.

Carscoop Splash 4 Suzuki Splash: Official Images Released
Following the revelation of Opel’s Agila earlier today, Suzuki released the first pictures of the Splash mini that will debut along with the Agila at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Theoretically, the Suzuki’s new mini which is based on the Swift platform is closely related to last year’s Splash Concept, however, design-wise we see very little in common between the two. Since the Agila is based on the Splash with very few optical differences like the redesigned front-end and rear light-clusters, there’s no difference in dimensions (3.740 mm in length, 1.680 mm in width and 1.590 mm in height). Likewise, the engine range will consist of three engines, two petrol 1.0 & 1.2-liter delivering 65 and 86 Hp respectively and one 1.3-liter common-rail turbodiesel with 75 Hp. The Splash is expected to go on sale in Europe next spring

Press Release & high-res pictures below

World Premiere at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt / Available with three engines with CO2 emissions below 140 g/km
With the Splash, a new fresh and exciting small passenger car, Suzuki Motor Corporation intends to gain a significant market share in this growing market segment in Europe. The new flexible compact car combines the sportiness of Suzuki’s successful model Swift with the technologies and immense know-how of the Japanese world market leader in the mini car segment. The Splash is not the successor of any specific former Suzuki model, but a brand-new concept to satisfy the needs of demanding European customers in terms of roominess, compactness, modern design, aerodynamics, quality, driveability, performance and environmental friendliness. The safety equipment encompasses state-of-the-art features such as six airbags and an Electronic Stability Program (ESP®*). It looks fresh, energetic, juvenile and emotional and thereby underlines the aspiration of its name Splash. Within the global growth strategy of Suzuki, the Splash is already the fourth entirely new model within three years after the launch of Swift, Grand Vitara and SX4 which all embody Suzuki’s unique ‘Way of Life!’-philosophy.
Within this market segment, the car convinces with a relatively tall body (1.6 metres) based on the chassis from the sporty Swift. With its overall length of 3.7 metres and width of 1.7 metres it offers an amply tall and comfortable roomy cabin with sufficient legroom for adults on all seats. Its modern design leads to excellent aerodynamic efficiency and consequently to low carbon-dioxide emissions.
The Splash will make its worldwide debut at the International Motor Show in September in Frankfurt am Main. Sales of the car with its excellent ride comfort will start as of spring 2008. It will be available with two different petrol engines: a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, 12-valve unit with maximum power of 48kW (65hp) and a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, 16-valve unit with maximum power of 63kW (86hp). With these engines, low friction and plentiful flat torque delivery at low and mid-range speeds help to ensure good driveability across the rev range while promoting fuel economy and limiting CO2 emissions. Customers preferring a diesel engine can choose a proven 1.3-litre, common rail, 16-valve unit with optional particulate filter and a maximum power of 55kW (75hp). In light of the growing need for environmental compatibility, emissions of all three engines with 5-speed manual gearbox are between only 120g/km and 140g/km. The petrol engines were both newly developed by Suzuki Motor Corporation as next-generation power engines. The diesel engine will be produced at Suzuki’s plant in India under licence from GM Powertrain Europe.
Suzuki aims to sell up to 60,000 units per year of the Splash in Europe. The brand-new model has been developed by Suzuki Motor Corporation and will be produced by its subsidiary company Magyar Suzuki Corporation in Hungary.

Suzuki Kizashi Revealed – Hybrid Model to Follow: Mega Gallery with 100 High-Res Photos

The production version of the Suzuki Kizashi sedan was officially revealed today in a special launch event in Detroit. Built at Suzuki’s new manufacturing plant in Sagara, Japan, the Kizashi will serve as the company’s flagship model when it arrives in North American showrooms this winter. Available in both front- and all-wheel drive versions, Suzuki’s Mazda6 and VW Passat rival will initially be offered with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine linked to either a 6-speed manual transmission or optionally, a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

While the Japanese automaker did not disclose any output figures for the base four-cylinder engine, Suzuki did reveal that other powertrain options are also under development for the Kizashi including a fuel efficient hybrid version that will be added to the lineup in the very near future.

Built on a brand-new platform, the Kizashi features MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link setup in the back with Suzuki supporting that the sedan will offer drivers “a dynamic and exhilarating driving experience”.

An Electronic Stability Program and anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution as well as the Suzuki-developed synergetic vehicle dynamic control system that assists drivers control will be offered as standard on the Kizashi.
Measuring in at 183.1 in. (4,650 mm) long, 71.7 in. (1,820 mm) wide and 58.3 in. (1,480 mm) high with a wheelbase of 106.3 in. (2,700mm), the Kizashi is roughly the same size as the latest generation Audi A4 Sedan.
Despite the fact that the Kizashi originated from the Concept Kizashi series introduced over the last two years, the production model’s styling is far less dramatic, which is a shame as the concept study featured an extremely well executed design that received positive reactions from European and North American consumers alike.
As for the mid-size sedan’s interior, Suzuki’s designers crafted an elegant looking dashboard that features an Alfa Romeo-esque instrument panel with two deeply set gauges and an uncluttered center console.
More details as well as North American prices are expected to be released closer to the sedan’s sales launch in December. Suzuki has yet to announce when the Kizashi will arrive in other international markets.
